New Cross Road | Slim Chance

"It's a really hearty and real collection. Fantastic sounds, excellent production"

Pete Townshend

New Cross Road

New Cross Road features a sublime collection of Ronnie Lane songs, plus new band originals and a cover of Squeeze Box by Pete Townshend. This is the band's third album since reforming in 2011, and follows The Show Goes On and On the Move.

The album features a true blend of styles and feel, with material being drawn from Ronnie Lane's repertoire (Chicken Wired, Annie, Debris and Spiritual Babe) and of course from within the band itself. There are strong writing talents in the band, notably Billy Nicholls and Geraint Watkins, as well as Steve Bingham and Charlie Hart, all of whom contribute to the album. Flossie Lane was written in honour of Ronnie's namesake, the notorious Shropshire publican.

Whilst we've built up a great reputation as a live band we really wanted to return to the studio and create an album that really reflects not only where we came from, but where we are. We feel New Cross Road does just that and we couldn't be prouder.

"There's heart and soul in this album, a lot of warmth and wit too….Slim Chance's championing of Lane's legacy is persuasive. …delivered with the good time expertise of seasoned players who can also serve up the more spiritual side of Lane's creative output with panache and sensitivity"

Richard Knight, Shindig

"Lane rangers rove again! Even 21 years after his death, Ronnie Lane's gypsy spirit continues to thrive in the capable hands of Slim Chance, the band he formed after leaving the Faces in 1973"

Classic Rock

"The band have become a live attraction in their own right, now releasing this collection of spirited new compositions and warmly affectionate covers of Ronnie classics, including the achingly poignant Debris and a heartfelt rendition of Annie"

Kris Needs, Record Collector

"Slim Chance….. keeping the beloved artist’s music alive with a mixture of reverence and joy. The five originals demonstrate the bandmembers’ second-nature feel for N’awlins-style boogie woogie. The LP’s meaty centre sandwiches a rollicking rendition of Pete Townshend’s Squeeze Box between two of Lane’s most poignant ballads, Annie and Debris"
